We do not recommend
installing Nesco shutters directly over stone veneers!
We do recommend placing our shutters over 2î depth stucco
pop-outs roughly 1î to 1 ‡î diameter short of shutter dimensions as
demonstrated in the diagram
®
Solid structural backing
should be installed at framingóFollowing information is for standard
shutter installation also
®
Lay shutter face up
®
Then using coarse thread
galvanized screws (of sufficient length to penetrate backing by at least
1î once installing on to house) run screws every 12îó16î through
the shutter at an upward angle of about 15 degrees (see diagram)
®
Using a caulking gun apply
a continuous ºî bead of adhesive around the entire perimeter about 1î
in from edge and a 1î glob to cover each screw pointóAcceptable
adhesives are those with a urethane base containing a petroleum solvent,
such as Polyurethane Sealant #6000 by Silicones Unlimited (available at
Nesco Mfg.), ChemRex #948 by ChemRex, Inc., Vulkem #116 by Tremco, PL
Premium Construction Adhesive, PL #200 or PL Polyurethane Sealant
available at most Loweís & Home Depot
®
At this stage, align
shutter to house and drive the screwsópenetrating backing by at least
1îócounter sinking the heads about 1/16î ñ1/8ì
®
If you choose you can Bondo
over screw holesóScrape a small (straw) whiskbroom over Bondo when it is
almost set to create rough sawn lookónote: scraping broom acts as
sandingóSand Bondo smooth when set to create smooth finish lookósand
and paint to match exterior note: if you do not sand Bondo paint will not
adhere
