When installing Nesco products always think of water leaks. When doing exterior
work-shutters, window trims, parapet treatments, etcÖ be sure to install all screws
at an upward angle of 15 degrees toward the structure to promote water drainage
down and away from structure.
Apply adhesive/sealant in a continuous bead (ChemRex #948 Urethane by
ChemRex,
Inc. or Polyurethane Sealant 6000 by Silicones Unlimited or equal) along backing or
interior of the piece where it will be attached to other materials. Place screws at 12"
-16" inches on center over the length of the piece (for large items), on each side of
all joints and/or within 2-4" inches of the edge or corner. Apply adhesive/sealant to
screw pints to prevent water penetration.
Adhere joints with two-part epoxy (3M #2216 or equal), following that product's
application instructions. This is required on all column joints as well. Primer and
sealer should be removed where the adhesive/sealant will be applied.
Raw foam must be sealed with a paintable silicone or other caulking agent (acrylic
based is preferred) when it will be exposed to the weather.
Bondo should be applied to screw pints and joints, sanded for smooth surface and
sealed (a small whiskbroom should be scraped over almost-set bondo to achieve
rough sawn look). Do not apply bondo over any painted surface as it will not stick
and will cause blistering and paint failure. Unsanded bondo will also cause blistering.
Always use mechanical fasteners-never just use adhesive alone-to install Nesco
products. Also, be sure that all screws are in solid structural material-not just the
stucco and foam coatings!!
