Installation of Full Columns  
                                 
(Do not use nail guns or framing nails on columns)    


                      

           At Framing Stage:

          
®  Place post through the column before locating the post.  
         
®  Cut wood backing material to fit inside the base and cap of the column.  
         
®  After setting the post, lift the column and attach the post to strap or other anchor devise, 
                then attach the wood backing to the post.  
         
®  Set the column down over the backing and attach the base to the blocking.  Use galvanized
               deck screws or coarse drywall screws.  
         
®  The top of the column should be attached in the same manor before the beam is set.  
         
®  Sand screw holes and fill with a lightweight bondo, sand smooth and then seal.

           After DrywallóNon-structural Interior

          ®  Locate solid backing above and below column.  
         
®  Mark floor and ceiling for backing location.  
         
®  Cut column to correct height and place in position.  
         
®  Using 4îó5îó6î screws (coated coarse thread screws) anchor the cap and base to the backing
               running the screws vertically through the sides or corners. 
         
®  Sink the heads about ºî 
         
®  Sand screw holes
         
®  Fill with a lightweight automotive bondo
         
®  Then sand smooth - note: paint will not adhere to un-sanded bondo.
